Parish Organizations

Community Outreach
The Outreach Committee focuses our talent and treasure on community-based organizations and projects. Each month a "Red Bowl" offering is collected with monies sent to a designated organization in and around Dixon.  The charitable organizations we support range from food pantries and homeless shelters to the Special Olympics.  Please contact the parish office for more information or to make a contribution

The Altar Guild
The Altar Guild is a devotional group which seeks to prayerfully prepare and beautify our worship space before each service. Our Altar Guild members work tirelessly behind the scenes, but find it a rewarding and uplifting ministry, full of plenty of opportunities for quiet devotion as well as fun social time.  It is the remarkable beauty of the Church, and the undeniable presence of the holy that makes the time spent in it so rewarding.

The Book Club
The parishes of Grace Episcopal Church, Sterling, and St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Dixon, host a book club which is open to members and friends of each parish. The club meets once a month to enjoy books and refreshments. Recent titles have included, "Death in Holy Orders," "Kite Runner," and "The Good Earth." The Book Club is a wonderful way to meet new people, enjoy a good book, and spend a wonderful evening with friends. Please check the monthly calendar for dates and times.

Bible Study and Supper Group
Every Thursday evening, after mass, a group gathers to take an in-depth look at the scriptures, one book at a time.  The group is just wrapping up its study of the Miracles of Jesus, and will be moving on to the Parables of Jesus next, with many more coming throughout the year.  The conversation covers all aspects that are of interest to those present, from historical considerations, interpretation, textual criticism, spirituality, social and political implications, and exegesis.  Come and join us for this fascinating and enriching discussion!

Youth Group
St. Luke's Youth Group meets on Wenesdays from 7-9 pm. We have regular movie nights, monthly trips to fun places, lock-ins, and chances to participate in summer camp and youth retreats. The youth group has been working to rehab a room of their own in the “tunnel”. It will be finished soon, full of fun and games, and space for hanging out together.

Choir
The St. Luke’s Choir is comprised of men and women who prepare devotional music to sing at our 10:15 service on Sunday mornings.  They enrich and beautify the service with their talents, and provide the whole parish with a wonderful space for quiet and meditation during our worship.  The Choir practices immediately after the coffee hour after the main service, and other times as announced for special services.

Acolytes
The Acolytes are ministers at our celebrations of the Holy Eucharist, and represent the whole church in our worship at the altar.  They participate in the liturgy by helping to draw attention and focus to the symbols of our worship, and by providing a peaceful and reverent space for all to worship in.  Acolytes help to promote the ministry of all baptized people as ministers of God’s Word and Sacraments.  It takes some practice to get the hang of some of the things that you have to do as an acolyte, so some training is required, but many people find it an incredibly rewarding and enriching ministry.

Area Ministries
St. Luke’s participates fully with the Dixon Area Council of Churches, which operates the local homeless shelter, the food pantry, Habitat for Humanity, and several other hard-working charities in the Dixon area.  Fr. Greene is the vice-president of the Dixon Area Christian Ministerial Association, which coordinates community worship services, and helps to promote ecumenical relationships among churches in Dixon.

The Episcopal Church Women
The ECW organization is open to all women. The ECW is a service-oriented society and our group is always exploring ways to make our space and our worship more accessible and meaningful to people around our community and around the world.
